There are no definite ways and techniques to boost your site's rankings but here are some tips to follow so that your site can be as "search-friendly" as possible.
1. Choose an appropriate domain name.
In choosing a domain address for your site choose something that is really connected with your site. Domain names are important since they are your virtual addresses on the web so you should come up with a address that has good recall and is proper for your site's content. more info
2. Optimize your site's pages.
Creating a website is not a mix and match thing, or same as building a scrap book. It may look easy to do but creating working and effective websites needs time and effort plus skills in order to maximize and optimize the whole website, from loading time to search engine and browser compatibility. more info
3. Select the correct keywords.
This is pretty obvious. If your site is selling nuts and bolts, don't use keywords like "hamburger" and "hotdogs". I'm sure visitors going there would be very disappointed. more info
4. Check your copywriting.
Check for any wrong spelling, grammatical errors and other things you might have missed and remember to use keywords prominently thoughout the site. more info
5. Spread and share your link.

6. Use your images "alt" attribute.
Some search engines index alt tags. "Alt" is the alternative text attribute tag attached to images that make them more visible to text-only browsers. more info
7. Update your content regularly
There is no assurance that all of the above tips would land your site into the top place than updating fresh content regularly. It will be a BIG factor when it comes to search rankings since web information tend to get outdated easily as users are always looking for fresh content. more info
